I think it's safe to say that travelling is something we all want to do. Unfortunately, we aren't always able to travel to the places we really want to go to due to budget constraints.
Fortunately, there are plenty of luxury vacation options that are light on the pocket, too, you just need to really look. So, if you're tired of going to Durban every holiday, here are a few interesting options:
Sandals Emerald Bay, Bahamas
The Bahamas are commonly associated with luxury vacation living. For many, this resort-filled archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean seems like a dream that is out of reach, but it really isn't. Sandals Emerald Bay's rates start at just under $300/night. Compared to similar destinations around the world (and even here in SA) that's reasonable. Not only does it have a world class golf course (designed by famed American pro golfer, Greg Norman) it also has "two sky-sized colonnaded pools overlooking the emerald sea, Global Gourmet dining at 10 specialty restaurants, and an award-winning Red Lane Spa". Not too shabby!
Game Lodge, South Africa
There's a reason foreign tourists flock to our game lodges. Not only do we have some of the best game viewing destinations in the world, but our safari experiences are incredibly affordable. I've visited my fair share of incredible lodges, and I've found that many of them are very affordable and offer breathtaking experiences in a luxury setting. Mountain Zebra National Park just outside the town of Cradock in the Eastern Cape is one such place. When I visited late last year on International Cheetah Day, I got to enjoy its incredible cuisine and wildlife, as well as the comfortable accommodation. Also, this is the only national park to offer an unforgettable cheetah-tracking activity. You can book accommodation here for under R1000. Yes, you read right!
