Those visiting or those beauty pageant aspirants visiting the Sun City on the weekend of May 13 can enter the The Miss and Mr Valley competition. The event, scheduled to take place at the Valley off the Waves is opened to people aged 3 and 25 years old.  Prizes are totalling over R250 000 and the winner of the 18 to 25 year category in the Miss Valley competition will receive automatic entry as a semi-finalist in the interview round of the Miss SA pageant.

The categories for entry to the Miss Valley pageant are 3 to 5 years; 6 to 8 years; 9 to 12 years; 13 to 17 years and 18 to 25 years. The categories for entry to the Mr Valley competition are 9 to 15 and 16 and over. The fun filled event will take place from 10:30am. In addition to the talent competition, visitors will be treated to live entertainment by singer, Candy Benson. There is no fee to watch the pageant unfold but the normal Valley of Waves entrance fees will apply.

If that is not your scene, the Valley of Waves offers some enjoyable activities for the family. It has been refreshed and boasts two new slides to try and two new eateries, the popular gastro-pub, The Brew Monkey, as well as a fast food arena, Food Factory.

There are now seven exciting slides, with a ride for every comfort level, from easygoing tubing along a gentle stream to semi-submerged waterslides that spiral downhill.  One of the popular attractions at Valley of Waves is the Roaring Lagoon – a 6 500 square metre wave pool with hydraulic mechanisms that generate waves of nearly 2 metres high every 90 seconds every half hour. The Lazy River offers a gentle, non-stop tube ride around an island while The Royal Baths swimming pool beside the Amphitheatre offers a place to soak up some warm sun rays, cocktail in hand. There are also a number of walkways through tropical forests surrounding Valley of Waves where visitors can explore the Spider Web Sway Bridge, hidden cave waterfalls, rare plant varieties and more. The Bridge of Time erupts every hour in an exciting, theatrical display of vibrations, rumbling volcanic sounds and smoke. Hopefuls can enter the competition by contacting the organiser, Hanlery Bouwer, at Events by Hanlery on 082 457 0648 or [email protected] and Valria Ferreira on 072 626 4042.
