The 2017 Gauteng Getaway Show, in association with Mahindra, is just around the corner and promises to be a spectacular event filled with fun, food, good company, lots of prizes and other special offers. 

The Gauteng Getaway Show is a fantastic excuse to be out and about with family and friends over the Heritage Day long weekend from 23 to 25 September 2017. 

Whether you are after adventure, chilling out to live entertainment, fantastic food offerings or shopping for outdoor camping gear and special holiday deals, there’s something for everyone.

 

Here are 10 reasons why this year’s Gauteng Getaway Show is a must-see:

 

1. Volleyball

Volleyball matches amongst South Africa’s best volleyball players will keep you entertained. There will also be slots where the public can play against each other – so challenge your friends to a match in the sun.

2. Travel and Taste Theatre

The Travel and Taste theatre offers both travel and food experiences and includes the opportunity to meet famous chefs and get top tips from their cooking sessions (plus plenty of tasting of the food and a chance to ask questions).  Expect everything from delicious whiskey tastings by Jack Daniels, Barista coffee experiences, GoPro presentations, plus stories of unusual travels and underwater adventures. This year, the Deputy Editor of GetawayMagazine, Tyson Jopson, will be on the stand sharing his best photo tips and top photography from Getaway assignments.

 

3. The delicious food

Engine 69, The Bohemian Pizza Truck and Pitmasters are some of the food trucks that will be offering some delicious delicacies for the day – the Deli area and a number of exhibitor stands will offer a further range of artisanal foods.

 

4. Shopping

There will be plenty of great specials on camping gear, caravans and other adventure gear and clothing. Experts will assist you find that dream holiday with the best possible deals on travel packages. 

Seize the opportunity to shop at the craft fantastic market and deli, where you can expect a wide range on offer, from leather bags, fudge and other tasty treats, to designer gin drinks, clothes and on-trend accessories.

 

5. Spend time with family & friends

The Getaway Show is a great excuse to get out and about with family and friends to celebrate the heritage and cultural diversity of South Africa. There is something to appeal to every member of the family, which will ensure many hours are spent together having fun.

 

6. Let the kids have their own fun too

There will be plenty of fun for children as well. Some of the best include parachute rockets, a paintball shooting tunnel and pedal go-karts. Enjoy the show knowing that the kids will also have a great time and not want to go home!

 

7. Come and see the Getaway Braai Off

Thanks to Outdoor Warehouse, Charka, Food Lover’s Market and Mabalingwe Nature Reserve, there will be great excitement as teams take part in both the Getaway Braai Off Junior on Sunday 24 September, and the GetawayBraai Off Potjiekos Competition, which takes place on Monday 25 September.

 

8. Live music and Adventure Area

Thrill seekers are going to love the climbing wall and laser shooting in the Adventure Area. However, amidst all the activity of the show there is also be the chance to chill out. Head to the beer tent and enjoy some great live music from local acts.

 

9. Enter a staggering number of competitions

There will be plenty of competitions over the weekend to win gear, accommodation and holidays! Some of the prizes lined up are an all-inclusive package to Ibo Island Lodge in Mozambique, a R20000 Cape Union Mart voucher and amazing bush escapes.
