Suncoast Casino, Hotels and Entertainment is bigger and certainly better. The R1.6 billion upgrade was launched this month, in time for the upcoming festive season boom. The Reimagined Suncoast has more entertainment, eateries, slots and the floor space has increased to 48 012m², the equivalent of five rugby fields.

There are 10 new eateries, 3 retail outlets, increased casino space, a newly located Salon Privé with 180-degree sea views and the Barnyard Theatre. Apart from the increase in local and international travellers, 1 400 temporary and 700 permanent jobs were created. Glenn Joseph, COO of Tsogo Sun Gaming, said they spent over R4 billion on casino and hotel refurbishments in the past five years.

“Capitalising on the location sets it apart from any other entertainment destination in the KZN region. Suncoast’s sea-facing façade has been opened up, creating a family-friendly environment on the lower-level and a Salon Privé unlike any on the continent, with spectacular views of the Indian Ocean.

It looks like Suncoast will be the place to visit this summer.

Here’s what you can get up to when at Suncoast:

Entertainment:

The Globe, a multi-purpose eventing venue, is the star of the 24-month long upgrade. Capable of seating 2 200 people, the 2 000m² venue’s domed design can suit every type of event. The Globe already has a stellar line up of acts including Loyisa Gola, Riaad Moosa, Skhumba and Lady Zamar.  The Barnyard Theatre, which is 800m² in size, can seat 400 people. The theatre opens with Big Top Rock from December 11 to February 24 and will be open six days a week. If you a movie fan, there are eight movie theatres and the Supernova, the largest screen in KZN, to catch up with the latest blockbusters.

Dining:

If you, like me, were not happy with the dining options that Suncoast had provided in the past, then you will enjoy the 10 new eateries. Each restaurant caters to different taste buds. There’s Calisto’s (Portuguese), La Rosa (Mexican), Mythos (Greek), Lupa (Italian) and Roti and Chai (Indian).  Those with a sweet tooth can indulge in some Krispy Kreme doughnuts or grab a gourmet shake at Rocco Mamas.  Also pay a visit to Candy Coasters, which has a Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory kind of vibe.

Make it a holiday:

For those who want to make the most of their time in Durban can book a holiday Suncoast Towers or SunSquare. Louise Howell, Marketing Manager, Louise Howell said both hotels had 164 rooms capacity and were an ideal location for people wanting accommodation near the beach.
