Described as part caravan park, part designer farm lodge, Old Mac Daddy in the Elgin Valley has been on my bucket list for a very long time.

Each old-fashioned trailer American style Airstream caravan is individually decorated and decked out to the nines with a specific theme.

The trailer accommodates 2 adults with 2 single beds in the lounge area.

For the decor, the owners asked local designers to collaborate on the interior design of each individual trailer. The result is a collection of ten trailer suites, two lakeside units and a Daddy’s Villa each with their own unique design that will take your breath away and put a smile on your face.

Attached to each trailer is a bathroom, a living room with folding glass doors on 2 sides - offering an awesome view, a sundeck with chairs - so don’t think cramped caravan -there really is a lot of space.

The living area and kids bedroom is spacious and airy.

We stayed in one of the Airstream trailers set up on the hillside  - the Metalmorphosis - which offers spectacular views over the valley and surrounding hills. The entire trailer is magnetic with innovative elements include a 360-degree magnetic puzzle and a full-length 3D Pin art metal pinboard - where the whole family can imprint their hands.

Each element inside the trailer – from the lights and shelving, can be repositioned so that no two nights need ever look the same.

Our trailer was set up against the hill, overlooking the pool, restaurant and kids outdoor entertainment area.

The Old Mac Daddy Barn houses the restaurant, entertainment area, children’s play area, pool, and bar - all with great views of the surrounding countryside.

The Restaurant and main entertainment area are built in the style of a barn - with loads of space and great views over the valley.

There are plenty of activities for the whole family to enjoy - including archery, nature walks, kayaking, stand-up paddling to name a few. There are kids programmes throughout the day to keep the little ones entertained.

The white sandy beach on the lake reminded me of those idyllic scenes in American movies where families vacation next to the lake surrounded by pine trees, with sun loungers and cocktail bar.

If you are looking for a cool place to chill for the weekend - this is the place -but beware- you will have to pre-book a few months ahead unless you can take a midweek break.

Keep an eye out for their mid-winter specials - even though the weather may be chilly, there is still plenty on offer to keep the whole family entertained.
