Cape Town-born Ricardo Nunes, better known as DJ Azuhl, has become a household name on the South African hip hop and entertainment scene. We speak to him about his travel memories.

First holiday memory?

Wow, it’s becoming vague nowadays. My first international travel experience was with Brasse Vannie Kaap to Belgium for the Pukkelpop Festival, then Spain with Godessa. My first official holiday was Miami with my wife.

Favourite place in South Africa?

Oudtshoorn in the Karoo.

Best holiday?

It has to be a toss-up between the UK and New York City.

What have you learnt from your travels?

That we are world citizens and there’s a whole world to explore, with many people to meet.

Ideal travelling companion?

My wife is my favourite travel partner, and travel helps us get away from stress.

Beach bum, culture vulture or adrenalin junkie?

Beach bum.

Greatest travel luxury?

My hair clipper.

Holiday reading?

Maps, guides and timetables.

Which place has seduced you?

Amsterdam.

Worst travel experience?

Close calls but none so far.

Walk to Big Buddha in Phuket.

Best meal abroad?

Green curry in Thailand.

Favourite city?

It would have to be Berlin.

Germany, Reunion and Japan.
