The 8th Annual Beer and Wine Festival at Capegate Shopping Centre kicks off today and runs until tomorrow. The festival plays host to over 20 wineries and craft beer breweries based in the Western Cape, and ticket holders will have the opportunity to taste from all the exhibitors as well as purchase their most loved cultivar and/or brew.

Amanda McCarthy, Marketing Manager at Capegate, ran shared a bit of insight on her role and what it entails: "My team and I are tasked with coming up with and implementing events that our visitors would enjoy and attract a new audience to the centre.

"We’ve hosted the We Love Wine Festival for the past 7 years inside the centre, but felt that we needed to grow the festival this year in space and attendance, hence the decision to include the addition of craft beer exhibitors, food trucks, entertainment and moving it to a bigger venue in our undercover parking area."

There'll also be food trucks to keep hungry tummies at bay, as well as live music and of course some of South Africa’s best wine farms all in one curated space. McCarthy explained the process of finding wineries and craft beer breweries for this festival. "We have appointed an agency CVO marketing that specialises in wine-related exhibitions and events to approach wineries and breweries based in the Western Cape and invite them to the festival.

"Every year we attract new exhibitors as well as a couple of familiar faces that exhibit each year.  Of course this year, all the craft beer exhibitors are completely new to the festival."

The festival is known as a place to stock up on wine for the festive season, says McCarthy. This year they'll also be offering the opportunity for ticket holders to buy and enjoy a bottle of wine or beer on the premises whilst enjoying some good food and listening to great music.

"There will be four food trucks at the festival offering a variety of options, although visitors are also welcome to visit any of the restaurants at Capegate.  Two bands, The Pedestrians and The Professors, will also each have a 45 minute slot during each day of the show."
