Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS), the airline of Switzerland, proudly celebrates 15 years of flying between Johannesburg and Zurich. SWISS, a subsidiary of the Lufthansa Group has been successfully serving South Africa from its Zurich hub since 1 April 2002 and currently operates daily flights between the two cities using the Airbus A340-300.

“As we celebrate 15 years of connecting South Africa and Switzerland, the city of Johannesburg remains one of the key destinations in our extensive network and we’re proud to contribute to the growth in joint trade and tourism between South Africa and Switzerland,” commented Dr. André Schulz, General Manager, Lufthansa Group Southern Africa. “The route has been sustained for 15 years due to the strength of SWISS’ operations, its extensive route network, schedule integrity and the company’s dedication to providing the highest possible quality in all its products and services.

“Reaching new heights of excellence with the strong historical ties between the two cities enables the creation of an environment where business, investment, tourism and cultural exchanges could, and continue, to flourish,” says Dr. Schulz.

“Due to its central location in Europe, SWISS is able to offer perfect connecting times, arriving in the morning, and allowing travellers to catch onward connections to their final destinations.” “For South African travellers heading to other countries in Europe, flights from Zurich are often much shorter, allowing leisure travellers to reach their destination sooner and without unnecessary delays,” explains Dr. Schulz.

“We are excited about the 15 year anniversary as this further unlocks additional opportunities to expand in the region and we look forward to sustaining and growing our relationship with South Africa for more years to come,” concludes Dr. Schulz.
