The 12 Apostles Hotel and Spa will be closed until Monday, the hotel told IOL Travel on Friday morning. 

On Thursday night, around 7:15pm, guests and staff at the hotel were asked to evacuate following  a fire in the Oudekraal area. Guests will be put into other hotels for the weekend, until the fire situation is put out. 

The deputy general manager of 12 Apostles Hotel, Lukas Laubscher, said the hotel decided to evacuated the hotel as a precaution to safeguard their guests.

“The fire is still not put out, but we hope that the situation is sorted by Monday. Our guests were evacuated last night and transported to other hotels in Cape Town. Our staff members were also sent home. The hotel will be closed until Monday,” he said. 

Laubscher said there has not been any psychical damage to the property. Social media was abuzz, with tweeters posting about the fire. 

@Rhub_Riesling  tweeted: “Thinking of 12 Apostles and everyone affected by this fire.” Kathy Collins‏ tweeted: “ Pretty worried about the 12 Apostles Fire tonight. Guests from hotel being evacuated.   The wind is bad.   Sleep safe!”
