Johannesburg - The reasons to celebrate keep coming for The Peech, Johannesburg’s - and now Africa’s best city boutique hotel. The international Boutique Hotel Awards 2014 were held at a festive event in London and amongst the many hotly contested international awards was the award for Best City Boutique Hotel in Africa – awarded to The Peech, the stylish boutique hotel based in the buzzing suburb of Melrose.

Owner James Peech is understandably thrilled to be acknowledged as the best urban escape on African soil and the award couldn’t come at a better time – just last week the Champagne corks were popping as his 16-roomed boutique hotel celebrated its 10th year in business!

“It’s a wonderful accolade to have and of course the timing is great. We’re thrilled to have been acknowledged for our dedication to a unique experience where service is everything”, says former ad whizz James, who turned his skills to hoteleering in 2004 and has yet to look back.

Known for its elegant eco chic style, lush garden surrounds and a service ethic that is both discreet and utterly attentive, The Peech has become an oasis of calm and style for both business and leisure travellers to Johannesburg. “Our guests love that we’re central enough to visit the sights and get to business meetings easily and that once you’re on the property you’re in an utterly serene space, free to kick back and relax”, he says.

It’s this laidback luxury that no doubt caught the eye of the undercover panelists who visited The Peech during the course of the year to check the hotel’s facilities, service offerings and the overall experience of spending time here. And what they found clearly appealed – much to the delight of James and his staff who work tirelessly to uphold the hotel’s unique brand of personable, professionalism.

Aside from the aesthetic and service oriented elements of the hotel, since its inception, The Peech has always focused on providing an experience that is rooted in the tenets of responsible tourism. From ensuring green design, recycling and solar power principles are in place, to contributing to the community; this elegant establishment is a beacon of 21st century hotel-keeping and more.

It’s these details that make the difference in pitting The Peech against other boutique hotels in its class – James sums it up more matter of factly “we’re not an OTT destination, we love good, old-fashioned service and we’re fastidious about getting the details just right” – and it seems the combination is working beautifully.
