The Oceania Riviera, which made its debut in May this year, offers a “country club casual” atmosphere.

Its clientele are doughty warriors in any buffet situation, but there's a sophistication often lacking on some bigger ships.

Showcasing the finest furnishings and magnificent artworks, designer touches are everywhere, from the magnificent Lalique Grand Staircase to the suites furnished in Ralph Lauren Home.

The Oceania Riviera's greatest resource is their crew - one for every 1.57 passengers. All were affable, approachable and unbelievably helpful.

There are 10 dining venues, of which six are open-seating gourmet restaurants with no surcharge, 15 decks, a fully equipped gym and spa, casino, disco and nightly world-class entertainment.

The guest capacity is 1,250 (double occupancy) with 800 international staff, many of which turned out to be South Africa. The guest to staff ratio is 1.57 to 1. - Saturday Star
