It’s official - Majeka House’s interior design and décor is absolutely world class.

Acclaimed as an opulent five-star accommodation choice in its historic setting of Stellenbosch, Majeka House has been lauded with an A’ Design Award, so taking its place amongst the planet’s most esteemed designer establishments.

“It’s a great achievement,” says Majeka House owner, Karine Dequeker-van der Merwe. “We bet on a relatively unknown interior designer, Etienne Hanekom, because we loved what he represented and what he was about. Etienne had carte blanche with the design, so the award proves our decision to work with him was spot on and at the same time further elevates the status of Majeka House.”

Designer Etienne Hanekom, of Ettienne Hanekom Creative Consultants, is equally delighted at the award and says: “Majeka House and Makaron Restaurant was the first public space I designed and it feels really great to be awarded for it. I design intuitively and I am glad it worked out so well, achieving the clean lines with a warm feel that I was striving for.”

After a stringent evaluation process by the 30-member jury comprising academics, business professionals, public relations experts and a focus group of end users, 259 entries were acknowledged with an A’ Design Award.

This, from a massive 3 653 entries from 140 countries. In spite of this stiff global competition, Majeka House achieved 153rd position across all competition categories - and was awarded a bronze medal in the interior design category.

Now Majeka House joins the world’s top designer’s, artists, architects and design-related companies that are ranked and listed online at Designer Rankings, based on the number of A’ Design Awards they have won.

It’s an esteemed achievement which will be celebrated at the gala awards evening to be held on Lake Como in Italy on 16 June 2012. Majeka House owners, Lloyd van der Merwe and Karine Dequeker-van der Merwe, will be in attendance at the exclusive black-tie event to receive the award for Majeka House.

An exhibition of the award-winning designs will be hosted in historical Broletto di Como from 16 June to 1 July 2012, in order for the public to enjoy the world’s finest creative design talent demonstrated in 2011. Winning designs can also be seen on www.awardeddesigns.com
