Ground has been broken and construction of The Capital Melrose is well underway, with the owner of The Capital Hotels and Apartments firmly on track in maintaining its strategy of opening at least two new on-trend apartment-style hotels every year.
“Only two percent of accommodation in South Africa is offered in apartment hotels, while this sector accounts for up to nine percent of the market globally,” says Marc Wachsberger, managing director of The Capital Hotels and Apartments. “This sector is ripe for growth because business executives travelling for short trips or long stays increasingly prefer apartment hotels as they are more spacious but more cost-effective than traditional hotels.
“This exciting new project builds momentum for our planned growth path of opening two new apartment hotels every year, as our tried-and-tested offering provides the best of apartment living and the best of hotel-level service – while still beating regular hotel prices by an average of 25%."
The Capital Hotels and Apartments, which has opened 11 apartment-style hotels across South Africa since it launched in 2006, opened The Capital Pearls in Umhlanga in 2017 and The Capital On The Park in 2018, with The Capital Melrose scheduled to open in early 2019.

With more than 109 rooms and studio apartments that can be variously configured into studio, one- or two-bedroom apartments, with or without a lounge and fully equipped kitchen according to guest needs, The Capital Melrose will also feature four ground floor garden units, which will hold added appeal for long-stay guests.
The Capital Melrose will also offer conferencing facilities, an a la carte restaurant and bar, swimming pool, and on-site gym.
