Think marshmellows by the fireplace, winter activities to get your adrenaline going and lots of quality time. With the weather being unpredictable in the colder season it is important that you plan properly to ensure your trip is a memorable one.

Tips for your winter getaway:

Book early

Believe it or not, many travellers book their winter getaways in advance, yearning for an escape out of the city where they can indulge in relaxation and tranquility.

If possible try to plan your trip at least a month in advance. This gives you time to secure good accommodation deals and research the surrounding areas.

Pack smartly

Carry a waterproof jacket, hat and gloves along with a few warm pieces of clothing - even if the day may be warm, it can get quite chilly at night. Pack a blanket or two for when someone wants to snooze during the trip or for that impromptu picnic by the lake.

Know the routes

If you are driving, try to start the journey as early as possible. With days being shorter during winter, the last thing you want is to get lost in the middle of nowhere when it is dark. In case of emergency, carry a map book with you. Bad cellular reception or a flat battery could cause unnecessary delays.

Pre-plan activities and games

While rest is important for the mind, body and soul, find time to explore your destination.

Find out whether the hotel or resort you are staying at offers any activities and pre-book them. If they do not, try to find places nearby that offer activities. A little adrenaline and sweat never hurt anyone. Plan a game night while everyone keeps warms near the fireplace.
