How widely have you travelled?

I’ve been to New York, Atlanta, Chicago, Miami, Los Angeles, London, Munich, Berlin, Le Mans, Paris, Switzerland, Amsterdam, Zambia and Lesotho.

Which is your favourite travel destination?

I love Berlin. I love the vibe and the people, and a close second is the Eastern Cape. I love being in Mthatha.

Your worst experience on a holiday?

Fights with friends.

Your funniest experience?

We almost got kidnapped by some people we shared a cab with in Montreux in Switzerland. It was so funny and scary because we thought they were taking us to our hotel and the next thing you know we were in France. Not cool.

What do you avoid during a holiday?

Partying.

Best meal abroad?

Thai food at some flea market set up outside the Jazz Festival in Montreux where Lonehill Estate were performing.

Your favourite place to have sundowners?

A pub in London.

What have you learnt from your travels?

That you should always leave room in your bag. You will find something you want to bring home.

Ideal travelling companion?

Someone who will not take offence if I am quiet or engrossed in a book.

Culture vulture or adrenalin junkie?

Both, but I am over landmarks, like – I could not give two beeps about the Statue of Liberty or the Eiffel Tower… sorry.

Greatest travel luxury?

Business class.

Holiday reading?

Fifty Shades of Grey. It was my last holiday read.

Dream trip?

Vietnam.

As a seasoned traveller and flyer, can you share some tips?

Stay away from the touristy places – boring and played out.

Where next?

I’m off to Paris in November and Thailand in December. I wanted to do Vietnam but was outvoted. - Weekend Argus
