Amanda Coetzer, for the past decade the leading woman tennis player from South Africa, has ended her career as she prepares for a life with one of America's richest men.

Coetzer's mother, Suska, confirmed on Sunday that Amanda and Arnon Milchan, a top Hollywood film producer, had been dating for more than a year.

The couple have no immediate wedding plans, but Coetzer issued a statement last week effectively ending her career which saw her maintain a spot in the world's top 10 for several years.

The 32-year-old Coetzer met Milchan when the producer acquired the rights to broadcast women's tennis through his Regency Enterprises.

Israeli-born Milchan is, according to Forbes, worth more than R7-billion. He made a fortune turning his family's ailing fertiliser business into a success.

His biggest successes as a film producer came with Pretty Woman; JFK; Free Willy; Natural Born Killers and Fight Club.

Milchan is a divorced father of four children.

Coetzer described her tennis career as "an incredible journey" and a "privilege" when she announced her retirement last week.

"I was extremely privileged to have had the opportunity to play the game I love. There are so many memories that I will take with me and for that I have to say thank you," she said. - Staff Reporter
