Fashion, beauty and travel blogger, Aqeelah Harron Ally, loves nothing more than exploring and discovering new places.

First holiday memory?

When I was five we road-tripped to Durban and then to Sun City in our family kombi. I don’t remember much but I remember being very happy on that trip.

Favourite place in SA?

I love The West Coast and Flamingo Bay here in the Western Cape. The drive isn’t too long but it’s just so beautiful!

Best holiday?

One of my best trips ever was to Thailand with my husband in 2015. We went for our first wedding anniversary and my favourite memory was jumping off the boat into the turquoise water and swimming with tropical fish. Whether it’s a pool or the ocean, I love being in the water.

What have you learnt from your travels?

The thing I always learn from every trip is to always keep my eye on the bigger picture, and the humbling fact is that you really are just a number in this world. You can travel to some places and feel wealthy in comparison, and go to other first world countries and feel like a pauper, or driven by how developed they are.

Ideal travelling companion?

Her husband is her favourite travel companion.

My husband is the best travel companion, hands down! We always love and hate doing and eating the exact same things when we are on a trip. Also, we have a system; I do all things admin-related by managing our passports, tickets itinerary and I make sure we are on budget with our daily spend, while he’s the muscle who carries, pushes and stows all our luggage, carries the camera equipment and, of course, lugs around all my shopping bags.

Beach bum, culture vulture or adrenalin junkie?

Aqeelah is a beach bum, culture vulture and an adrenaline junkie

I’m a beach bum, culture vulture and an adrenaline junkie! When I travel I don’t hold back. It’s when I feel most alive so I do everything that’s going to make me feel like I’m living.

Greatest travel luxury?

I love that we have so much good camera equipment. It may sound weird, but my husband and I both love creating beautiful images and when we travel we are most inspired to do just that.

Where has seduced you?

Lisbon in Portugal. For me, it’s the most underrated European city. I’ve been twice and would go back again any day.

Worst travel experience?

We drove through parts of the Eastern Cape with a car that was really not equipped for the terrain. It meant we had to drive around 20km per hour on the dirt roads.

Best hotel?

The Hyatt Regency in Dubai was the best hotel I’ve ever stayed in last year. It was wonderfully luxurious!

Celebrating love in Paris.

Favourite walk, swim, ride or drive?

I love Sunday drives along the coast here in CPT, going from Camps Bay, along Chapman’s Peak, around Cape Point through to Muizenberg and back home to the suburbs. It has the best views!

Best meal abroad?

Nothing beats pasta in Italy.

Favourite city?

My favourite cities are London, Paris, Rome and Hong Kong. I really can’t pick one.

Where to next?

We can’t decide where we want our next trip to be. It’s a battle between New York, Turkey and another Thai getaway..
