London - From high-end luxury hotels to budget-friendly hostels, Mallorca has something to suit any budget.

Park Hyatt Mallorca, Cap Vermell

The latest luxury chain to land on Mallorca is the Park Hyatt, which has just opened on the island's east coast. It forms part of the larger Cap Vermell Estate that extends to villas and a country club with tennis courts and a golf course that guests can also use. Looking down over the Canyamel Valley, the 142-room resort is built to resemble a traditional Mallorcan village replete with a village square, three swimming pools and a choice of restaurants.

Park Hyatt Mallorca, Avenida des Cap Vermell 153, Canyamel (00 34 871 811 2341; mallorca.park.hyatt.com). Doubles from €500 (about R8 000) including breakfast.

Nakar Hotel, Palma

Despite its contemporary lines, the new Nakar Hotel, which swings opens its door on 16 June, promises to be a decidedly local affair. The architect, interior designer, chef and owner all hail from the island. Rooms have a pared-back, modern feel with subtle, neutral colours, oak panelling, wooden floors and all the latest mod cons. You can loll in the rooftop infinity pool with its views of the landmark Cathedral and out beyond to the Mediterranean and there's also the 8th floor CUIT restaurant serving Mallorquin-inspired dishes. Back on ground level the 57-room hotel is well placed on the bustling Avenida Jaume III for shopping and sightseeing.

Pure Salt Garonda

You won't have to venture too far to hit the beach at the newly renovated Pure Salt Garonda, one of the few luxury options in this sweep of the Bay of Palma. The 115-room, adults-only hotel looks directly out over the Playa de Palma a short drive from both the airport and the city centre. With fine golden sands a beach ball's throw away, guests can also spend their days lounging at The Eight Beach Club right in front of the hotel or there's the ONA spa with an indoor pool in the basement.

Pure Salt Garonda, Carretera Arenal, 28 Platja de Palma (00 34 971 014 040; puresaltgaronda.com).

Fleming Hostel

Mallorca is not all about high-end luxury as the recent opening of the Fleming Hostel attests. A growing number of budget properties are getting the designer makeover and this recently arrived 39-room hostel is bang on-trend with its judicious use of dark metal, beamed ceilings and traditional, patterned encaustic floor tiles. Rooms have been reimagined for a more aestheticallysavvy crowd with a choice of two-, four-and six-bedded rooms and guests have the use of a sun deck, reading room and shared kitchen.

Barcelo Formentor

The Barcelo Formentor is not new - opened in the 1920s it's one of the island's more historic places to stay in the midst of a Unesco World Heritage-listed nature reserve right by the sea on the Formentor peninsula. It's known locally as the hotel of the stars; former guests have included everyone from actor John Wayne to acclaimed architect Le Corbusier. Last year, the hotel opened six new villas dotted around the grounds, each with its own individual charm yet with all the perks of the hotel. The traditional-style three-bedroom Sa Taulera is a quiet escape steps from the beach.

Playa de Formentor, 3, Port de Pollenca, Mallorca (00 34 971 865 155; formentorvillas.com). Rates start at €320 per night for a two-bedroom villa including breakfast, based on a week-long stay.
