Matric vacation is just around the corner, so why not do something unusual?

Europe has some fantastic places to see.

While parents scramble for last-minute accommodation in South Africa’s Matric holiday hotspots, an alternative option, and one that will deliver peace of mind, is a pre-arranged trip where your transport, and sometimes your accommodation, is all prearranged.

Whether you’re travelling solo, with your BFFs or the entire Class of 2018, you could head overseas on a scheduled trip during your December holidays before you’re forced to ‘adult’ for the rest of your life, says Divan Viljoen, Flight Centre Youth and Adventure Campaign Manager.  “Your transport, accommodation, some meals and experiences are pre-organised. All you need to do is pitch and colour-in the blanks on your own terms.

“So while the essentials of your holiday are pre-arranged so parents don’t have to worry about how you’re getting around and where you’re staying, you have the freedom to experience a destination the way you want to,” explains Viljoen.

“Think Christmas Markets in Europe, balmy beaches in Thailand and Highland flings in rugged Scotland. The world truly is your oyster and with all your transport and accommodation organised on a flexible trip, as well as some highlights like stays with the locals, cycling tours and access to a Busabout crew for the duration or your trip, your parents won’t be running around at the last-minute trying to find a you a place to crash,” adds Clarke.

Selecting her top alternative ‘Matric Vac’ picks for December, Clarke highlights South-East Asia as offering incredible value for South African youths seeking an affordable Matric holiday destination. “Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia are popular options for South Africans, with only Vietnam requiring travellers to get a visa prior to their trip.”
