Multi-award winning Zimbabwean sensation, Berita launched her “Songs in the Key of Love” tour and on Saturday evening, her Cape Town fans will get to see her perform at Youngblood Gallery in Bree Street.

Berita said the tour has been great and that she especially enjoyed the first performance at the Barnyard Theatre in Pretoria last week.

“It’s been good, the show has been well received and I am looking forward to performing in Cape Town,” she said.

Saturday’s show will be Berita’s second performance in Cape Town, and she remembers how fond she was of the city and its people.

“I am looking forward to performing here again. My fans asked me to come back and I could not wait to do so.”

Berita said she enjoys the live experience and that her album, Songs in the Key of Love, is a journey of love to her.

“It’s powered by my voice and my guitar. I released the album just before Covid-19 hit, so I never got to perform it for a crowd,” she said.

She added: “Having to perform it live and seeing the response is heart-warming.”

The songstress said her love started in her childhood where she would listen to local music on the radio.

“I was fascinated by hearing music from people who sound like me. I remember music being a part of gatherings.”

She added: “I remember my mom cleaning the house on a Saturday to Brenda Fassie, Lucky Dube and Yvonne Chaka Chaka’s music.”

“I gravitated towards music without knowing it is something that I had a calling for.”

Berita also runs the Woman Of Music Business (WOMB), an organization set up to upskill women within the music industry on the African continent.

“I’ve been in the music business for nine years and I’ve faced struggles with safety and had challenges with being paid equally,” she said.

“I think this is a recurring story for many and I’ve found that women are more susceptible to the disadvantages of the music business.”.

Berita will perform live at Youngblood Gallery in Bree Street, Cape Town at 7PM.
