Tyrone Karolus is the young entertainer who has many laughing and at the edge of their seats to hear what he’s going to say next.
Known to his followers as @tyronedinges, the 19-year-old from Atlantis is a second-year university student who creates TikTok videos in his spare time.
Karolus spilled the TikTok tea with us.
Where does the handle @tyronedinges come from?
Since I was in school, my name was always Tyrone Dinges on Facebook.
Where did ‘focus op jouself’ come from?
I like to focus on myself and stay in my lane. That’s the inspiration and advice that I’d like to give to other people. People shouldn’t do what other people do. They should do their own thing, focus on themselves and their happiness.
Did you plan to blow up on TikTok?
No, I did not. I didn’t plan to have many followers. I love entertaining people and making them laugh.
What has the experience been like?
It’s very heart warming when people stop me in public, to take pictures with me. That’s something I’ve never experienced before. It makes me feel like a celebrity, but I am so grateful for the support. I still live a very normal life.
What does it feel like to have such a big following?
It makes me feel good about myself. I don’t always look at the follower count, but I know that I must be doing something right. The fact that people are watching me, is what makes me more consistent on the app.
I connect with my followers very closely and it feels like a family. I try to give them as much attention as possible
What inspires your content and do you plan it?
Mostly it’s things I see around me or my own lived experiences. I try to film two videos per day. When I have more time, I film more videos.
What are your plans for your TikTok account?
I like entertaining people, and I would like to continue doing so. In future, I want to use my account to help others promote their businesses. I want to push out as much content as I possibly can.
What’s your advice to aspiring content creators?
Do what you love. Don’t copy other people. When something works for you, focus on that thing. You can’t do everything, but you can do one thing well. Be consistent.
