On Thursday evening, the One&Only hotel in collaboration with cooking initiative Showcook, announced the winners of the Reaching for Young Stars annual cookoff.
A total of 35 students from the Western Cape’s top culinary schools competed against one another in teams which consisted of chefs, pastry chefs, baristas and beverage students.
The One&Only Reaching for Young Stars Chef of the Year 2021 was awarded to Jadon Lee Harilall who won a three-week mentorship at the One&Only Nyungwe House, in Rwanda.
Harilall’s other prizes included a five-month working experience in Cape Cod Massachusetts at Winslow’s Tavern, a 170-seat restaurant held in high esteem by an international brigade of skilled chefs.
The Young Star Pastry Chef of the Year was awarded to Saudiqah Gelandt who won a three-month internship at the Château La Creuzette in Boussac, France.
The other award winners received prizes which include KitchenAid mixers, gadgets, utensils and bakeware.
