THE Mother City Queer Project Party, one of the biggest dress-up events in the country, has announced a Bollywood theme.

Revellers can dress in flowing saris, sultry shararas and glamorous gararas, as well as dapper nehru suits, turbans and fine scarves.

The colourful event will be held on December 17 at the ZipZap Circus Dome on the foreshore. The theme was announced last night at the Dragon Room and the event, hosted for the 23rd time, was billed as Africa’s longest-running costume party, attracting thousands of visitors.

Director Ian McMahon said: “This year’s MCQP
will be a spectacle like no other; a royal Bollywood Production of dancers, singers, colours, saris, harems and so much more. It will conjure up characters from Bollywood, Bombay and Kolkata.”

McMahon said for the first time, MCQP would be taking place at the ZipZap Circus Dome and an additional six enclosed spaces.

“Furthermore, we’ll start at 2pm, which will allow MCQP to incorporate a daytime festival leading up to the party until the early hours of the morning. An afternoon sundowner set by Chris De Vos’s Sexy Groovy Love bandwill give you beats all afternoon until sunset. As usual, we’ll have the best talent on show, like Jamie Saint and other top DJ’s.”So what should one wear to the Bollywood Production theme?

“The brighter, the better. Don’t be afraid to wear bold colours – that will help you fit in with the Eastern guests who’ll be dressed in vibrant colours and eye-catching jewellery.

"If you don’t have a sari or lengha, don’t worry – a jewel-tone dress with a shawl will be perfect,” said McMahon.
