The twin sister of rape and murder accused Mohydian Pangkaeker in a phone call begged him to tell her where he was after little Tazne van Wyk went missing.

The eight-minute voice recording, in Afrikaans, of the phone call on February 9, 2020, was played in the Western Cape High Court during his murder trial this week. It was the second phone conversation the twins had on the day, two days after Tazne who was 8 at the time disappeared.

She was last seen with Pangkaeker who walked away with her from a nearby tuckshop in Connaught Estate, Elsies River.

Pangkaeker was arrested 10 days after Tazne’s disappearance at a B&B in Craddock, in the Eastern Cape.

After more than a year of postponements, he was back in the High Court dock this week.

His twin Nazli was one of the first state witnesses to take the stand.

In the audio played in court, which the Weekend Argus has, Nazli begged her brother more than 10 times to tell her where he was.

“Hello, Mohydian, it’s Naz, please just tell me where you are, if you don’t have the child you can just tell them,” Nazli is heard saying.

Pangkaeker wants to know from his sister why people are accusing him of taking Tazne.

“What must I tell them?” he wants to know in an agitated voice.

Nazli then again asks him where he is. “If you don’t have the girl, please say so,” she continued.

Pangkaeker then wanted to know from his sister why he would have Tazne.

“People are saying you are in Parow with the child and that you left her at a brothel.

“Everyone’s houses are being searched and I can’t even go to work. They say they saw you walking to Parow station with the child.”

Pangkaeker then exhales loudly exclaiming that he is “gatvol”.

Nazli again tells Pangkaeker to let the police know that he doesn’t have the child and to let them know his whereabouts.

Pangkaeker seems surprised when his sister tells him that his name is all over the news.

She tells him that his girlfriend told the media he was planning to go to Caledon on the day Tazne disappeared.

At the time Pangkaeker’s girlfriend had told the media that he was a very dangerous man who easily moves between cities hitching rides.

As the phone call continues, the sister again begs her brother to know her where he is.

“Please just say where you are so that I can speak to the media. They say you were last with her.”

Pangkaeker then told her he saw Tazne standing in the road when he walked back to his house where he forgot his phone.

His sister again begs him to tell her where he is because she cannot sleep.“Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, you guys are giving me a headache,” Pangkaeker utters.

She again begs and tells Pangkaeker that she doesn’t want anyone to hurt him.

“Who’s going to hurt me?” Pangkaeker asks.

“I didn’t even get her a drink, she was sitting at the shop and then I walked pass,” Pangkaeker continued.

Nazli then again mentions that people saw him with Tazne.

He responds: “Where must I put the child, who is going to look after her when I have to work? The people are making me very upset.”

Near to the end of the phone call, Pangkaeker tells his sister he was far from home.

Pangkaeker’s crime dates back to 1993, across many parts of the country including Worcester, Johannesburg, Ladismith and Port Elizabeth, East London and Durban.

According to the charge sheet ► of ◄ Pangkaeker’s more serious charges dated back to 2001 where he was convicted of culpable homicide, abduction and child neglect in Ladismith, as well as a murder charge in Kuils River.

Pangkaeker also absconded in 2015 and had been placed on parole supervision the next year until 2019.

A recent court document also revealed that Pangkaeker sexually abused his daughter, nieces and granddaughter and that his daughter had fallen pregnant while they were in a relationship.

The trial continues.
