The acting municipal manager of Oudtshoorn Walter Hendricks will on Thursday be slapped with a notice asking him to give reasons as to why he should not be suspended.

Hendricks will need to respond within seven working days to the notice, Weekend Argus can reveal.

This comes after the High Court in George last week ruled that Hendricks' previous dismissal was unlawful.

He was dismissed after 13 councillors from the ANC, PA, Saamstaan, OGI, GOOD and Advieskantoor tabled a successful urgent motion on April 22 to remove Hendricks from his post.

Now they want to do it the legal way, a source with inside knowledge told Weekend Argus.

“That’s the route we want to take, we want to pursue it (Thursday) already,” Oudtshoorn Mayor Chad Louw (24) told Weekend Argus.

“He should, within seven days, explain to us why he should not be suspended or why he should not be investigated,” Louw said.

“We are pursuing that for Thursday’s council meeting, there is other stuff that we are also dealing with and this might be one of them.”

Hendricks is currently facing criminal charges for tender fraud and corruption stemming from when he was employed by George Municipality.
