Cape Town - Police have confirmed that another two people have been shot and wounded in Manenberg, including a prominent gangster.

Police were called to the scene in Pecos Walk in Manenberg just after 6.50pm on Tuesday.

Three suspects, who opened fire on the duo who were sitting in a vehicle, had fled the scene on foot.

Police spokesperson Captain Frederick Van Wyk explained: “Two males, aged 29 and 41, were shot and wounded.

One of the men is a prominent member of the Hard Livings gang.

“According to reports, the two males were sitting in a black motor vehicle in Pecos Walk Manenberg when three males approached them, and they randomly opened fire on the occupants of the vehicle,” he said.

“The three males fled the scene on foot in an unknown direction.

“The two injured males were taken to a nearby hospital by private transport for medical treatment.

“A case of attempted murder has been opened for investigation.

“Anyone with information about this incident is kindly requested to contact Manenberg SAPS 021 699 9400 or Crime Stop on 0860 010 111.”

A Manenberg resident, who asked not to be named for fear of her safety, said the area had been plagued with shootings since March and that gang members open fire usually when the police has their shift changes at night or morning.

The community, she said, were living in fear now after witnessing the shooting.

The gang war is between rival gangs, the Clever kids and the Hard Livings gang.

“We have had at one stage 15 people killed in three days in March,” she said.

“We had an incident where a young boy from Hanover Park was visiting his girlfriend, and he was killed, and he was innocent.

“We had peace talks, and now it is gone.

“The man shot last night belongs to the Hard Livings gang, and he is one of the leaders, and he is critical in hospital. He is part of the leadership. They were shot by youngsters who are still teenagers belonging to the Clever Kids gang.

“This senior gang member was sitting in the car when they opened fire.

“People had to run last night because it happened so suddenly.

“Now the shootings will continue.

“The gangs came running from the area called the Greens, and people were too scared to leave their homes for work and school this morning.

“We need more police in the area now. We only saw one police van this morning.

“The gang members themselves know when the shift changes are then they shoot.”
