Three men were killed in a drive-by shooting in Crossroads, Nyanga on Saturday hours after Police Minister Bheki Cele hosted a crime imbizo in the area.

Two other people sustained gunshot wounds after unknown suspects allegedly fired several shots from the inside of a moving minibus taxi.

Four men were on the receiving end while standing on the corner of Situlo Street shortly after 2pm on Saturday afternoon.

Three of the men died on the scene while the fourth male sustained a serious injury.

A stray bullet hit a woman, believed to be in her 30s, standing outside her home in the same street.

Nyanga police are now on the hunt for the suspects involved in the murder and attempted murder cases registered for investigation.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa said the victims were between 25 and 33 years old. Their identities will be released to the public once their next of kin have been informed.

“No arrests have been made as yet and the motive for the shooting is yet to be determined as SAPS continues to investigate,” she said in a statement.

Earlier this week police were also called to a scene of a murder were the bodies of two women and one man were found floating in a canal in Sarepta, Kuilsriver. The bodies were discovered by passers-by on their way to work.

Potelwa said the bodies of the two women and one man had gunshot wounds.

Multiple spent cartridges were discovered in the vicinity of the canal. Police divers recovered the bodies from the water.

The identities of the people who died are still unknown.
