Cape Town - The Cyril Ramaphosa Education Trust has withdrawn bursary support from one of two University of Pretoria students seen making racist slurs in a video.
A video showing female Tuks students, one of whom is a Blue Bulls cheerleader, using the K-word went viral on social media after it was shared on a WhatsApp group.
The university has suspended the two and they will face a disciplinary hearing.
The trust posted a statement on its social media platforms condemning the “abhorrent behaviour” displayed in the video and confirmed that it had withdrawn the student’s bursary with immediate effect.
“The bursary programme has prided itself on its non-racial, non-discriminatory programme that supports disadvantaged students across all races,” the statement said.

Blue Bulls rugby has also axed the student from its cheerleaders’ squad.
In a statement issued on its social platforms, the Blue Bulls Company said it would not condone any form of racial abuse.

In the footage, one of the students, who appears to be intoxicated, uses the K-word to accuse a black person of stealing her phone. The two students then use the K-word and other expletives several times.
Tuks expressed shock at the incident, saying the institution “strongly condemns the use of such derogatory and racist language”.
