1. DmC: Devil May Cry
Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC
Reworking of the supernatural slasher series that's clever and plot-heavy, taking pops at bogeymen such as bankers.
2. Temple Run 2
Free, ioS
The endless-runner iPhone game is back with swisher graphics and more levels. No wonder it was downloaded 20 million times in the four days after its release.
3. Far Cry 3
Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC
The third in the Far Cry series, with a set-up which can make you think that you're really prowling the paradise island shores.
4. The Earth Defence Force 2017 Portable
PlayStation Vita
The graphics on this PS3-to-PSV game are mediocre to just plain awful, but somehow that's part of the charm.
5. Sing Party
Wii U
The new Wii joins the party with this smartly designed karaoke game. Makes use of the multiscreen mode and the Wii U Gamepad, but the tracklist could be stronger.
6. Super Hexagon
iOS, PC, Steam
Those familiar with Terry Cavanagh's work will know that his games are engrossing. This elegant puzzle allows you to use just two controls, left and right.
7. Borderlands 2
Xbox 360
A reboot of the first Borderlands, with Planet Pandora as the stage for a showdown between you and the machine-gun-wielding, slightly madcap baddies.
8. Halo 4
Xbox 360
The first in the next trilogy of the well-respected of the Halo series. It's an impressive beast with fabulous graphics allied to good playability.
9. Faster than Light
PC
Like most of the great PC games: a simple one. Your goal is to cross space with your stolen cargo, while avoiding a just-on-your-tails fleet.
10. Crysis 3
Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.
It's all about the nano-suit here, a bullet flinging leviathan spewing out rounds of ammunition like there's no tomorrow. - The Independent
