The number of passengers leaving Cape Town International Airport soared yesterday as holidaymakers left for home.

Deidre Davids, the head of communications at the airport, said additional staff had been brought in.

The heavy demand was expected to last until Monday, “peaking on Friday”.

At the same time, an increased number of overseas arrivals were expected.

Colin Naidoo, the head of communications at Durban’s King Shaka International Airport, said it had been “very busy” during the festive season.
