Johannesburg - The Democratic Alliance will launch a national campaign this weekend aimed at creating a million jobs, the party said on Thursday.
“We want to show South Africa just how seriously we take the jobs crisis. The DA has the plan and the political will to create millions of jobs,” said spokesman Mmusi Maimane.
He said DA leader Hellen Zille would launch the drive at the Freedom Park in Pretoria on Saturday.
“This will be the biggest campaign the DA has ever embarked upon outside of elections,” he said.
He said Zille would present the DA’s plan for growth and jobs, a document which underpinned this campaign.
“This plan is the culmination of many hours, days, weeks and months of intense debate in the party about how best to grow the economy and create jobs.”
The campaign would be based around five key themes, namely education for jobs, helping people start their own businesses, giving young job-seekers a youth wage subsidy, building infrastructure for growth and lowering taxes for greater investment.
Maimane said the party had consulted economists and economic institutions in South Africa and from around the world on the plan.
“Our objective is to speak to as many South Africans as possible, to tell them about our plan to create more jobs and grow the economy. And we want people to hear, loud and clear, that the only way to change their circumstances is to use the power of their vote,” he said. - Sapa
