Johannesburg - South Africa consumers face a double petrol price hike shock.

The latest projection issued by the department of energy is for a petrol price increase of 61 cents a litre on August 7.

This projection is based on international oil prices as well as the rand exchange rate from June 28 to July 2.

That is on top of 84 cents a litre price hike that was effective today.

As a result of today’s petrol price increase, the price of 95 octane petrol increased to R13.23 a litre - a record price in Gauteng - and R12.86 a litre - a record price at the coast.

The adjustment in the local petrol price will be based on the rand exchange rate as well as international oil prices in the period from from June 28 throught to August 1. - Staff reporter
