SA recorded another trade deficit in July for its trade with non-Southern African Customs Union (non-SACU) trading partners.

A R6.7bn deficit was recorded in July‚ after a R5.7bn deficit in June‚ SARS customs and excise figures released on Friday showed.

The deficits have however been smaller in recent months compared to April’s almost R10bn.

Customs and excise attributed July’s decline mainly to increased imports of machinery and electrical appliances‚ products of the chemicals or allied industries‚ and original equipment components.

The cumulative deficit for the year to date is R57.3bn compared with a cumulative deficit of R6.9bn in 2011. - I-Net Bridge
