De Beers news cheers Anglo shares

Johannesburg - Johannesburg-listed shares of Anglo American have been lifted by news that its diamond-mining unit De Beers is forking out 20 billion rand ($2.3 billion) on a new mine in South Africa, where wildcat strikes have hurt confidence and earnings.

Anglo American is trading 2 percent higher and is the biggest gainer among blue chips, whose index is down 0.03 percent. - Reuters
