BUSINESSMAN Saki Macozoma has resigned as a non-executive board director of both Liberty Group and Standard Bank. He has resigned as Liberty chairman and as Standard Bank deputy chairman, both with effect from December 31. He was first appointed as Liberty chairman in 2007 after being a Liberty director since 2003. He has been on the boards of directors of Standard Bank of South Africa and Standard Bank Group since 1998. “There are opportunities that have opened up to Safika Holdings that require my full-time attention if we are going to do justice to them. In addition, the leadership transition in the group is done and is working and the restraints on me and Safika Holdings that arose out of the Katleho empowerment transaction expire on December 31. It is these factors taken together that make now the right time to bow out of the leadership of the Liberty Group.” – Staff Reporter
