Johannesburg - About 1 000 National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) members marched to Northam Platinum’s Zondereinde Mine yesterday to call for, among others, the axing of the company’s chief executive, Paul Dunne, amid allegations of victimisation.

NUM deputy president, Joseph Montisetse, who led the march, said the main purpose of the march was to warn management about a witch-hunt against NUM members.

“NUM members have been killed since January, and they come from within South Africa and neighbouring countries. Unfortunately the company is not doing enough to ensure their safety, especially in hostels,” said Montisetse.

He said management was not doing enough to help police to make arrests.

Northam Platinum confirmed the NUM march yesterday.
