Johannesburg - The suspended chief executive of South Africa's state-owned airline SAA, Monwabisi Kalawe, stepped down with immediate effect on Friday, according to local news agency EWN.

Kalawe, who was suspended two months ago on grounds of misconduct and mismanagement, would become the sixth chief executive to leave the company in the last six years.
