JSE-listed Sappi has been selected as a preferred bidder for the government’s renewable energy independent producer programme. The company, which has interests in forestry, paper and chemical cellulose, said it had been given the green light by the department of energy to produce 25 megawatts of power at its Ngodwana mill biomass project in Mpumalanga. It said the project would contribute to the national grid. Its shares eased 0.10 percent to R57.35 yesterday. – Sechaba ka’Nkosi
