Security: Transnet closure pleases Nyanda

FORMER SANDF chief Siphiwe Nyanda yesterday welcomed the settlement of the long-running dispute between Transnet and the company he co-founded, General Nyanda Security (GNS). “I am relieved that I have been cleared of any wrongdoing,” he said. Transnet announced this week that it had withdrawn all litigation against GNS, “and regrets any harm” caused.

The parastatal said an investigation had established that it had derived full benefit from the sums it had paid on all its security contracts with GNS. The terms of the settlement were confidential.

Nyanda said he was satisfied by Transnet’s admission that its allegations and GNS’s blacklisting were procedurally incorrect and unfair.

The “emotional drainage over this matter” had led him to quit public office. – Sapa
