The Brazilian economy grew 0.75 percent in June compared with the previous month, the best monthly performance in more than a year, the Central Bank projected Friday.

The nation's economy was projected to have contracted 0.01 percent in May.

According to the bank's economic activity index, the economy rose 0.53 percent in the first half of this year, compared with the second half of 2011.

The official figures are to be released on August 31.

The Brazilian economy gave clear signs of a slowdown in the first quarter of 2012, edging up only 0.2 percent from the previous quarter, according to official data. This prompted market analysts to revise their growth forecast for this year to 1.8 percent.

Last year, the world's sixth largest economy expanded a mere 2.7 percent, sharply down from the sizzling 7.5 percent in 2010. - Sapa-AFP
