Berlin - Men occupy nearly 90 per cent of major corporate management and board positions in Germany, according to a study released Tuesday.

Women occupy only 11.1 per cent of corporate power positions, according to the women's manager initiative “Women into the Boards.”

The study looked at 160 companies listed on the Dax, MDax, SDax and TecDax trading indices.

Over two years, women's presence increased by only 4.6 per cent - too little to speak even of improvement in small steps, said Monika Schulz-Strelow.

“It's not enough to bring only one woman onto the board or into top management,” she told dpa.

“In order to change anything, more women must be in leadership positions of a company. Studies show you need at least 20 to 25 per cent women's presence to get the ball rolling.” - Sapa-dpa
