Microsoft is cutting the price of its Surface RT tablet by as much as 30 percent as the device struggles to lure customers.

The least-expensive Surface RT model in the US will cost $349 (about R3 500) without the cover that doubles as a keyboard, down from $499, according to Microsoft’s website.

The same device with a keyboard included will sell for $449, down from $599.

The Surface has largely been shunned since its debut in October last year, selling just 900 000 units in each of its first two quarters on the market, according to researcher IDC. – Bloomberg
