New York - US stocks Tuesday opened higher following an unexpected rise in durable goods orders as trade resumed following Monday's Memorial Day holiday.
Five minutes into trade, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 51.66 (0.31 percent) to 16,657.93.
The broad-based S&P 500, fresh off a record close Friday, advanced 8.15 (0.43 percent) to 1,908.68, while the tech-rich Nasdaq Composite Index jumped 24.85 (0.59 percent) to 4,210.66.
New orders for US durable goods rose 0.8 percent in April, the Commerce Department said.
The report had been expected to show a decline of 1.3 percent. - Sapa-AFP
