ZAMBIA’S Mopani Copper Mines, which is owned by Glencore, said yesterday that it had completed upgrading a copper refinery at a cost of $74 million (R880m) seven months ahead of schedule. Mopani said the completion of the upgrades at the Mufulira refinery located 385km north of Lusaka would reduce energy consumption and hasten production. “Our refinery… has been using an old conventional electro refining process since the 1930s when the refinery was commissioned,” it said. – Reuters
