Hectares planted to wheat have been adjusted lower by 9.6% to 546‚700 hectares in the 2012 season compared with a year earlier‚ the crop estimates committee said on Tuesday in its latest report.
The area planted to wheat stood at 604‚700 hectares in 2011.
The committee said wheat remained a non-profit crop based on the lower prices. This is the lowest area planted to wheat since the early 1930s‚ it said.
Among other crops‚ malting barley was increased by 3.9% to 83‚290 hectares from 80‚150 previously.
Canola rose 4.6% to 45‚490 hectares from 43‚510 hectares in the previous period. - I-Net Bridge
