Johannesburg - South African shares hit fresh record highs as the rand softened to near a two-week low on Friday following worse-than-expected trade figures.
The Top-40 index added 0.3 percent to 33 766.91 and the All-Share rose 0.2 percent to 37 994.
A weak rand is positive for resource companies, which earn in dollars but pay local obligations in the rand. - Reuters
