A mine worker who was trapped under rocks for a day at the Harmony Gold Kusasalethu mine in Carletonville is recovering in hospital, the National Union of Minewokers (NUM) said on Tuesday.

Spokesman Lesiba Seshoka said the man had been trapped under the rocks since Monday morning and was only rescued early on Tuesday.

Rescue workers were able to communicate with the man throughout the rescue.
