Johannesburg - Harmony Gold Mining reported a fatality at its Phakisa mine in the Free State on Friday.
The company said the employee had died in a rail-bound equipment accident at the mine, and that an investigation into the accident was under way.
“We are deeply saddened by this accident. My condolences go to the family, colleagues and friends of the deceased,” Harmony chief executive Peter Steenkamp said.
Last month, Anglo American Platinum reported that a mineworker was killed due to an explosion-related incident at the company’s Rustenburg East mine.
Harmony shares declined 0.39 percent on Friday to close the day at R48.75 on the JSE.
