Washington - US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday he would not allow transgender individuals to serve in the US military in any capacity."After consultation with my Generals and military experts, please be advised that the United States Government will not accept or allow ... Transgender individuals to serve in any capacity in the US Military," Trump wrote on Twitter.

However, of those on social media voiced their discontent at Trump, calling him a hypocrite in light of how he has readily backtracked in his support of LGBT people during the US Election period.

Thank you to the LGBT community! I will fight for you while Hillary brings in more people that will threaten your freedoms and beliefs.

Trump's Twitter thread about how transgender people function as a distraction, did not go down well.

. @POTUS anti-trans pronouncement is ugly and wrong. Discrimination isn't patriotic -- allowing all who love this country to serve, is. pic.twitter.com/OVERwxEu61

I grew up in a military w/ LGBT people serving in the shadows. We can't let DT turn back the clock on our brave, trans soldiers. #RISEUP

Trump announces a ban on transgender people in the U.S. military. Disgusting.

This is what he tweeted last year. Trump was never Pro-LGBT. pic.twitter.com/itanTTvpqf

Trump announced transgender ban while his Defense Secretary was ON VACATION. Essentially confirms a political decision from WH, not DOD led

Every patriotic American who is qualified to serve in our military should be able to serve. Full stop.
