The Cape Cultural Collective, better known as CCC, will on Friday present its latest showcase for local artists who are seldom given the opportunity to shine.

Shades of Freedom, as the show is called, will feature internationally renowned ethnomusicologist Dizu Plaatjies, drag artist and SA’s GotTalent runner-up Manila von Teez, and accomplished blues guitarist Elton Goslett, along with other artists who will perform at the Slave Church Museum in Long Street from 7pm.

The show is organised in collaboration with the SA Sendinggestig Museum (Slave Church Museum).

The audience will also be entertained by the awesome Blackroots Marimba, a UCT-trained group, and powerful vocalist Aziza Davids, from Manenberg. Aziza is a member of the Rosa Choir which did a six-month singing stint in Spain in 2015.

The spoken word component of the evening will be represented by wordsmith Romeo Maasdorp, slam poet Siphosethu Phikelela and the youthful poet and rapper Vusumuzi Mpofu.

The Buya Afrika drummers from Langa will kick off the evening with their energetic rhythms.

There will be food on sale.

Entrance is free and donations are welcome.

The event will be streamed live for people outside Cape Town.

CCC secretary Elizabeth Schutter has called on Capetonians to come in their numbers.

“These cultural programmes are growing in quality and attendance every month. It is a space to enjoy artistic creativity, as well as to reflect on social challenges and opportunities,” said Schutter.

The Cape Cultural Collective is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year and has an impressive list of projects under its belt, including: monthly cultural programmes; a poetry anthology; the Rosa adult and junior choirs; four major celebration concerts for UWC’s 50th anniversary; the Uhadi poetry production performed in Paris in 2013, and cultural tourism initiatives.

The CCCs programme for its 10th year includes cultural programmes in March, April, May, June, August and November.

It also includes a major fundraiser in July, a showcase event in September at Artscape that will relate CCC's journey through music, poetry and dance; a public event in a park with arts, culture and food in October; the consolidation of the Rosa adult and junior choirs; an Arts and Culture summit at a time and place to be determined; a massive expansion of the CCC’s public profile through a heightened media presence; a 10th anniversary exhibition in May; and working with Communicare on arts and culture programmes aimed at development and social cohesion.
